Cinnamon Apple Cake from Gluten Free Fix

Cinnamon-Apple Cake Gluten-Free Fix
It's our wedding anniversary today, so I thought having a cake for dessert tonight would be fun...reminiscent of a wedding cake...., but I don't eat grains - hence neither does my husband, because I don't make them! We went to Shelburne Orchards this weekend and picked way too many apples, so I thought making a paleo version of an apple cake seemed appropriate. I found this recipe from Michelle atGluten Free Fix  that sounds yummy! That’s especially true if you top your piece of cake with Michelle’s Honey Caramel Sauce.
Both of Michelle’s recipes are gluten free, grain free, dairy free, and refined sugar free, and also work for those on a paleo and Specific Carbohydrate Diet. However, despite the ingredients that this cake and sauce do not contain, it’s obvious you won’t be missing a thing when enjoying them!

Great Advice from Ernestine Shepherd

Ernestine Shepherd is a 75 year old body builder, and my inspiration. This is some fine wisdom from her trainer, Yohnnie Shamburger:

"Yohnnie Shamburger, ( my trainer) who took the time to whip me into shape and taught me how to be a strong person and a person of strength always has a wealth of information for everyone. Please let me tell you what I learned (from Yohnnie ) about "A Strong Person" and" A Person of Strength" A strong person works out every day to keep their body in shape. A person of strength builds relationships to keep their soul in shape. A strong person isn't afraid of anything. A person of strength shows courage in the midst of their fear. A strong person won't let anyone get the best of them. A person of strength gives the best of themselves to everyone. A strong person makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future. A person of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be unexpected blessings and capitalizes on them. A strong person wears a look of confidence on their face. A person of strength wears grace. A strong person has faith that they are strong enough for the journey. A person of strength has faith that it is in the journey that they will become strong. I thank my trainer (Yohnnie ) for all he has done for me. This is how I try to live my life., ( my trainer) who took the time to whip me into shape and taught me how to be a strong person and a person of strength always has a wealth of information for everyone. Love, Eat, Live

Eating is such an individual thing. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Listening to the body you seem to live in, and determining what feels right for you is more important than taking anyone else's word for it - no matter how much "scientific" study has gone into the conclusion.  Taking an active role in one's health, becoming more aware of what is true for you, will do more for one's well-being than any insurance, or ObamaFakeCare, or drugs, or doctor visits could ever do. Listen to your body. It will always tell you the truth. It's a truth teller and a lie detector! You are closer to your physical apparatus than any doctor on the planet ever could be. So do not take anyone's word that one thing is better than another. You be the judge. You take responsibility. It is not beyond your realm of intelligence or education degree. You know how things feel inside, you know what stresses you and what eases that stress, and you have the power to learn what might work better for you - more intelligently than something else.

I don't believe sugar causes anything - good or bad - except what we believe it causes. Everyone has been told that sugar causes dental caries and inflammation, or that brushing one's teeth will prevent dental decay. Not really so. I've brushed the hell out of my teeth all my life, flossed, etc., and still the decay can pop up, and all I've accomplished is receding gums. If brushing for prevention was true, every wild animal on the planet would have tons of dental decay (they don't). It depends on who one is - what thoughts they are believing about themselves as they eat whatever they eat, or live however they live. Is love involved in the eating, preparing, in the overall care of the physical apparatus, or is there stress, and undo hate for oneself??  This all plays a major role in dis-ease, as well as digestion, assimilation, elimination.

I prefer a paleo/primal lifestyle. A paleo/primal way of eating focuses on real food - nothing processed, not much sugar (raw honey, coconut sugar, maple syrup), no grains, grass-fed meat, eggs, fat - coconut oil, ghee, butter, duck fat... fat - REAL fat, no transfat. I feel good eating this way. I was a raw vegan foodie for years, and it served me well for a time - it seems to be a great cleansing lifestyle.

So eating simply - whole, real unprocessed food- exercise, and more importantly, loving, accepting and appreciating life, I find keeps me happy and healthy.

Decisions

I like to pause before making any decisions, especially ones pertaining to my child, and ask myself, "Is this decision coming out of Love, or out of some fear I am harboring?"

Usually, if I am quick to say "No!" I find I really need to pause for a moment and look to see why I am resisting. I can feel in my body whether or not the decision I am about to make is coming from fear or from wisdom. My body tightens up immediately when fear is involved. When wisdom is offering an answer, I am calm, relaxed, and I don't feel the need to come up with a reason, or an excuse, or any defense for my answer. When it smells as if I'm afraid of something, love is not involved , no matter how many reasons, I can come up with as to why the fear is legitimate. For me, the decision that comes from Love is always the right answer.

Pre/Post Menstrual Smoothie

Here's a great smoothie for PMS or Post Menstrual and all menstruals inbetween....

fresh almond milk
blueberries
water/vanilla tea/coconut water - or whatever you find creative in the liquid realm
raw cocoa
royal jelly
chlorella
spirulina
camu camu
shatavari
salvia root
vitex
raw honey

I neglected to put any amounts in, as I just go by instinct. I might use a couple tablespoons of cocoa, a cup of blueberries, a couple teaspoons to a tablespoon of chlorella, spirulina, shatavari, a couple teaspoons of camu camu, a couple dropperfuls of vitex, and a couple tablespoons of raw honey, a 1/4 to a 1/2 teaspoon of royal jelly to 2 to three cups of liquid. Blend up and enjoy.

The Truth

There is not one thought that flows through you that is true. There is not one belief you have about anyone, or anything that is true. The thought that you even exist is not true. You are but a figment of imagination. Take a thought, take any belief you have and ask, "Can I absolutely know that this is true?" You may think it's true, but the Truth is, it isn't. You have no control, you just believe you do. The harder you resist, the harder life is. Life happens - that's about it.

Truth is a movement. You can't capture it, contain it, give expression to it, or use it to advance your interests. The moment you capture it, it ceases to be the truth. What is the truth for me is something that cannot, under any circumstances, be communicated to you.
